What does "Accept HCV" mean?

The federal government issues Housing Choice Vouchers (also known as HCV or Section 8) to very low-income families.

The HCV participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

A family that is issued an HCV is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit where the owner agrees to rent under the program. Rental units must meet minimum standards of health and safety.

The federal government pays a housing subsidy to the property manager directly on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged and the amount subsidized by the program.

If you are willing to accept an HCV voucher as payment, you should check the "Accepts Section 8/HCV" box.
